Cherry Blossom in Korea

Cherry Blossom in Korea 2014. Cherry blossoms, one of spring’s most iconic flowers, are expected to bloom two to three days later than last year.

One of the major factors affecting the blooming dates is the temperature in March, which is lower than the average.

Cherry blossoms are expected to start blooming in Seogwipo on Jeju Island around March 27, in the southern regions around April 1 to 12, and in the central regions around April 7 to 11. Gyeonggi-do and the northern and mountain areas in Gangwon-do can expect cherry blossoms to bloom after April 10.

Since cherry blossoms usually peak around one week after blooming, the predicted peak blooms are expected around April 3 on Jeju Island, April 8 to 19 in the southern provinces, and April 14 to 18 in the central regions.

However, do note that spring weather in Korea is somewhat unpredictable, with temperatures changing constantly especially from late March to early April. Expected dates might change with a one or two-day variation.
